History

Since 1995, PRTS has graduated just over one-hundred and ten students; many other part-time and non-program students have attended throughout the years. Alumni are serving the church in various ways: pastoring, preaching, teaching, pursuing further education, international missions, domestic missions, and church planting.

Our History

1995

PRTS Begins

Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary begins with the acceptance of four seminary students from the Heritage Reformed Congregations (HRC).

Classes Commence

Classes officially commenced on August 9, 1995, under the leadership of our president, Dr. Joel R. Beeke.

1998

HRC and FRCNA Working Together

In 1998 the Free Reformed Churches of North America (FRCNA) chooses PRTS to train their theological students. Gerald M. Bilkes is appointed as Professor of Old and New Testament Studies.

First Graduation

PRTS graduates its first class.

2004

New Building

Having outgrown the original facilities, PRTS constructs a new building, opening the doors in November of 2004.

Educational Excellence

PRTS is awarded degree-granting status from the State of Michigan.

2005

The Puritan Resource Center (PRC) is dedicated and opened to the public in October of 2005. The PRC allows scholars from around the world to study a wide variety of Puritan literature and to gain a deeper appreciation of the Puritan tradition.

2007

Dr. Murray Joins Faculty

Dr. David P. Murray joins the faculty of PRTS as Professor of Old Testament and Practical Theology.

2010

Dr. VanDoodewaard Joins Faculty

Dr. William VanDoodewaard becomes Associate Professor of Church History.

2012

Dr. Barrett Joins Faculty

Dr. Michael Barrett is appointed Academic Dean and Professor of Old Testament.

Rev. Kelderman Joins Faculty

Rev. Mark Kelderman is appointed Dean of Students and Spiritual Formation.

2013

PRTS Is Accredited

PRTS gains accreditation with the Association of Theological Seminaries (ATS), and joins a list of prestigious academic institutions, furthering its goal of academic excellence.

2014

Addition To Facility

PRTS completes the expansion of its current facilities, doubling its size.

2016

PhD Classes Commence

PRTS begins its PhD program in Historical Theology.

PhD Faculty Hired

Dr. Adriaan Neele is appointed as Director of the PhD program and Professor of Historical Theology. Dr. Stephen Myers and Mr. Greg Salazar are appointed as Professors of Historical Theology.
